What does "girlie" mean?

The term “girlie” can sometimes be seen as patronizing or derogatory, but it is often used as a casual, affectionate way to refer to someone, typically among friends or in online communications to add a playful touch to the conversation.

Commonly used by women when addressing each other, it’s akin to saying “girl” or “sis.” For example, after successfully completing a project, a friend might say, “Girlie, we nailed it! What a team!”

But, it can also come off negatively. Like if someone says, “Calm down, girlie,” it might sound like they’re not taking the other person seriously. It’s important to think about how and when you use it, making sure it fits the situation and the person you’re talking to.
